Guardiola: City Unworthy of Club World Cup Bonus

Pep Guardiola is aiming to win the FA Cup for the third time this season

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has expressed reservations about his team receiving the £97m prize money for winning the Club World Cup this summer, despite their underwhelming domestic performance and early Champions League exit. The City squad, currently fifth in the Premier League, faces Moroccan side Wydad, Al Ain from Abu Dhabi, and Juventus in the tournament's group stage, which kicks off on 18 June in Philadelphia. The Club World Cup awards the biggest prize pot in club football to the winners. City have also been granted an initial transfer window opening between 1-10 June, allowing them to strengthen their squad for the knockout phase. Uncertainty surrounds the participation of key players Kevin de Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan, whose contracts expire on 30 June, but short-term extensions are now an option. Guardiola has yet to update on De Bruyne's future plans.
