Potential £97m Windfall Awaits Man City, Chelsea at Club World Cup

Enzo Maresca talks to Pep Guardiola

Manchester City and Chelsea are set to earn up to £97 million in prize money from this year's Club World Cup, according to a new distribution model announced by FIFA. The overall prize fund for the tournament, which will take place in the United States from June 15 to July 13, is £775 million, with the top-ranked European team receiving £29.6 million just for participating. The expanded Club World Cup, which will feature 32 teams and take place once every four years, will include teams from each of the six international football confederations. The prize money is weighted by a ranking based on sporting and commercial criteria, with European clubs set to earn more for taking part than teams from other continents.
