Eni Aluko, former England striker and current sports broadcaster, spoke about the negative impact her ongoing legal case against Joey Barton has had on her broadcasting career. During an interview with BBC Radio 4's Woman's Hour, Aluko, 38, welcomed winning the first stage of a High Court libel claim against Barton, arising from posts on social media. Barton has not yet responded to the ruling on the meaning of his posts and could appeal or defend the statements if the case goes to trial. Aluko claimed that her career as a pundit has suffered, with reduced TV appearances over the past 18 months. She pointed out a double standard in the broadcasting industry, where opportunities for female broadcasters remain limited. Aluko also mentioned facing threats of violence and abuse on social media after Barton's defamatory posts.
