Ancelotti Heads to Brazil for Talks with Local Clubs

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti waves

Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti is in discussions with the Brazilian Football Federation (CBF) regarding the vacant Brazil national team coaching position ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in June. Ancelotti, 65, will meet with representatives acting on behalf of the CBF, with the potential outcome being his departure from Real Madrid before this summer's Club World Cup in the United States. The CBF is keen to secure Ancelotti's services following Brazil's disappointing 4-1 defeat by Argentina last month, which resulted in the sacking of Dorival Junior. Brazil currently sit fourth in the South American World Cup qualification table, and the CBF believes Ancelotti's appointment would give them the best chance of winning the tournament, which will be jointly held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico next year. Ancelotti has enjoyed success with Real Madrid, winning two La Liga and three Champions League titles across two spells, including both trophies last season. However, his side are currently four points behind La Liga leaders Barcelona with five matches remaining and were beaten 5-1 on aggregate by Arsenal in the Champions League quarter-finals. Bayer Leverkusen's Xabi Alonso is reportedly a candidate to replace Ancelotti at the Bernabeu if he accepts the Brazil job.
