Glasgow City Advance to Scottish Women's Cup Final with 4-0 Victory over Motherwell
=================================================================================
Glasgow City booked their place in the Women's Scottish Cup final, defeating Motherwell 4-0 at Hampden Park. The nine-time champions will face either holders Rangers or Aberdeen on 25 May.
City's pressure told after more than half an hour of Motherwell resistance, with Emily Whelan crossing for Sofia Maatta to tap in the opener. Maatta then set up Nicole Kozlova for the second before the break, while Kozlova also missed several chances in the first half.
Katie Lockwood added two more goals after the break, with Whelan providing the assist for the second. Maatta was denied a second by Motherwell goalkeeper Emily Mutch, and Brenna Lovera netted from an offside position at a corner, although replays suggested she may have been onside.
Samantha van Diemen's long ball found Lockwood for her second goal, as City dominated the game. Motherwell struggled to create openings of their own but secured a SWPL top-six finish and reached the last four of the Scottish Cup, giving them cause for optimism for next season.
Rangers meet Aberdeen in Sunday's semi-final at Hampden (14:10 BST), with the match live on BBC Alba, iPlayer, and the BBC Sport website and app.
Glasgow City head coach Leanne Ross was pleased with the performance, stating, "It was a comfortable performance. Our patterns of play came out, and the individual quality we have throughout the team shone."
