Maguire's Madcap Match: United's Most Memorable Encounter

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire hailed their 5-4 win against Lyon in the Europa League quarter-final as the "strangest game" he's ever played in. The match, played on April 18, 2025, ended with a 7-6 aggregate victory for United after extra time. Maguire scored the decisive goal in the 120th minute, making United the first club to score twice in the 120th minute of a European tie. Lyon, who had striker Corentin Tolisso sent off, scored four times without reply in regular time before conceding three times in seven extra-time minutes. United boss Ruben Amorim plans to give playing time to youngsters in the remaining Premier League matches to rest senior players for Europe. United will face Spanish side Athletic Bilbao in the semi-finals.
