Xabi Alonso, the head coach of Bayer Leverkusen, announced on Friday that he will be leaving the club at the end of the season, with reports suggesting he will replace Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid. Alonso led Leverkusen to a Bundesliga title and the German Cup in his first full season as a senior club manager last year. He revealed his decision to depart after three years with the club, expressing gratitude for the support he received during his tenure. Leverkusen, who have relinquished their Bundesliga title to Bayern Munich, host Borussia Dortmund on Sunday before concluding the season at Mainz on 17 May. Alonso played for Real Madrid between 2009 and 2014 and is set to return as manager, though the formal announcement has not yet been made.
