Sunderland midfielder Jobe Bellingham, 19, is set to join Borussia Dortmund in a deal worth up to £31m, following his older brother Jude's footsteps. Jobe, who wears his first name on his shirt, has been a key player for Sunderland since joining them from Birmingham in 2023, where he also progressed through the ranks alongside Jude.
Jude, now at Real Madrid, made a big impact at Dortmund before his £88.5m move in 2022. He won the DFB Pokal in 2021 and the Bundesliga Player of the Season award, narrowly missing out on the title in his final season. Jude's stint at Dortmund proved to be a bargain, with Sunderland set to make a significant profit on their sale of Jobe.
Jobe sees himself as a box-to-box midfielder, contrasting with Jude's role as a number 10. Jobe has expressed a desire to create his own identity, separate from his brother's success.
Former Sunderland manager Tony Mowbray believes the move to Germany will be beneficial for Jobe, providing less pressure and financial advantages. Jobe scored four goals and registered three assists in his first season at Sunderland.
Jobe and Jude both have international aspirations, with Jude already capped 43 times for England and Jobe named in the England Under-21 squad for the European Championship. Jude has spoken about his dream of playing with his brother for England.
If Jobe completes his move to Dortmund by 10 June, he may represent the club in the Club World Cup instead of the Under-21 European Championship, potentially facing his brother in a competitive match.
