The Spurs' New Cook in the Kitchen: What Franks' Unique Approach Could Bring'

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly closing in on Brentford manager Thomas Frank as their new boss, as they look to replace Ange Postecoglou following their Europa League triumph. Frank, who has been in charge of Brentford since 2018, is the second-longest serving Premier League manager behind Pep Guardiola. The Dane has overseen 152 Premier League games, winning 54, losing 60, and taking 200 points from a possible 456. In terms of points per game, Frank ranks 29th among managers who have taken charge of 150-plus games in the Premier League era. Spurs have spent considerably more on transfers since 2016-17 compared to Brentford, with Frank having spent £254m and received £183m in sales, resulting in a net spend of £71m. Frank would be Tottenham's fourth permanent manager since 30 June 2021, with Nuno Espirito Santo, Antonio Conte, and Postecoglou all having been sacked.

Chris Sutton, a Premier League winner with Blackburn Rovers, believes Frank will face pressure from the off at Tottenham due to the high expectations at the club. Frank has built a reputation for producing strong, character-driven teams with no egos at Brentford, helping players like Ivan Toney, Bryan Mbeumo, and Yoane Wissa improve. Brentford finished the 2024-25 season with more points, goals, and fewer goals conceded than Tottenham. Football tactics expert Alex Keble suggests Frank's flexible approach to tactics may see Tottenham play a more possession-based game under his leadership.
