Manchester United complete £62.5m signing of Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha from Wolves.

Brazil international Matheus Cunha has signed for Manchester United after the Red Devils activated a release clause in his Wolves contract. The five-year deal, subject to a visa and a medical, will see Cunha reunite with former Wolves coach Edu Rubio, now a part of United's coaching staff.

Cunha scored 31 goals in 76 games for Wolves after joining from Atletico Madrid in 2023. United director of football Jason Wilcox expressed his delight at securing the signing early in the transfer window. Newcastle United were also interested in the forward, but United's historic appeal and reputation were key to securing his move to Old Trafford.

Cunha's arrival aims to address United's poor goalscoring record from last season, with the forward scoring 27 goals in 65 league games for Wolves in the past two seasons. However, he is not a traditional center-forward, and his adaptation to the Premier League remains to be seen, as Antony and Rasmus Hojlund struggled in their early stints with the club.

Former England midfielder Fara Williams believes Cunha will improve United's squad, citing his impressive statistics and work ethic. Cunha's ability to drop deep to retrieve possession, his driving runs, and his goalscoring prowess from outside the penalty area are expected to be valuable assets in Ruben Amorim's 3-4-2-1 system.
