Everton denounce fatal threats against Tarkowski

Everton player James Tarkowski has faced death threats and abuse on social media following a controversial tackle during Wednesday's Merseyside derby against Liverpool, in which he was booked for a challenge on Alexis Mac Allister. Everton condemned the threats and stated they are liaising with Tarkowski and his wife, Samantha, and are prepared to assist with any potential investigation. Tarkowski apologized to Mac Allister, who accepted the apology, and said he thought the Argentine midfielder was going to challenge for the ball. The Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) later stated that the tackle met the threshold for a red card, and the original decision not to send off Tarkowski should have been overturned. Liverpool manager Arne Slot expressed that mistakes are normal in the season and they don't influence the league table. Everton manager David Moyes said the tackle could have resulted in a sending off, but the abuse Tarkowski received online is unacceptable.
