Former Man Utd Star: Club Undergoing Destruction under Ratcliffe's Management

Manchester United legend Eric Cantona has criticized the co-ownership of the club by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, saying the team is being destroyed under Ratcliffe's leadership. Ratcliffe's Ineos Group purchased a 27.7% stake in United in February 2024 for around £1.25bn ($1.6bn), giving them control over the club's football operations. The Glazer family, who have owned United since 2005, retain a majority stake. United has raised ticket prices and made two rounds of redundancies to improve finances, which has drawn criticism. Cantona, a former United forward, spoke at an event for FC United, a club founded by disgruntled Red Devils fans. He claimed that Ratcliffe and his team of directors are destroying the club and don't respect anyone. Cantona questioned the wisdom of Sir Alex Ferguson's impending departure as a global ambassador and criticized Ratcliffe's plans to bulldoze Old Trafford for a new ground instead of redeveloping it. United has declined to comment, and BBC Sport has reached out to Ineos for a response.
