Ipswich Striker Liam Delap to Be Available for £30m Due to Relegation Release Clause
Ipswich striker Liam Delap is likely to be available for £30m this summer due to a relegation release clause in his contract. The 22-year-old forward, who netted 12 goals in 33 games in his first full season in the Premier League, will have his release clause triggered as Ipswich currently lies 12 points away from safety with only seven games left.
Delap's impressive performances this season have attracted interest from several Premier League sides. Manchester United is one of the clubs with a significant interest in him. However, the Red Devils' financial situation and competition for his signature could pose challenges.
Chelsea is also reportedly interested in Delap, with manager Enzo Maresca having previously worked with him at Manchester City's academy team. Despite this connection, the Blues are also considering other strikers such as RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko and Sporting's Viktor Gyokeres.
Manchester City, who previously held a £40m buy-back agreement on Delap, is unlikely to make a move due to their current squad depth and potential lack of European football next season.
Pundit Chris Sutton believes Delap would be an upgrade for Manchester United, but the lack of creativity at the club could pose a risk. Delap's physicality and swagger make him an attractive prospect for bigger clubs.
Other potential suitors for Delap could include Arsenal, West Ham, Aston Villa, and Newcastle, with much depending on the clubs' Champions League positions and player transfer and retention strategies.
