Injured Man City Star, Hemp, to Join Squad for Leicester Showdown

Lauren Hemp

Manchester City forward Lauren Hemp is set to return to action for the first time in five months after recovering from knee surgery, interim boss Nick Cushing confirmed on Sunday. Hemp, 24, has been out since 8 November, but took part in training with the team on Friday and will be in the squad for the Leicester game.

England international Hemp's return is a timely boost for City, who have struggled in recent weeks and currently sit fourth in the Women's Super League, 12 points off leaders Chelsea. The club have been plagued by injuries, with key players Alex Greenwood, Khadija Shaw, Vivianne Miedema, Aoba Fujino, Jill Roord, and Mary Fowler all missing games. Rebecca Knaak, Laura Coombs, Naomi Layzell, and keeper Ayaka Yamashita have also missed significant number of games this season.

Prior to her injury, Hemp was one of the standout performers in the WSL this season, scoring twice and assisting five times in seven matches. Her return could provide a much-needed boost for the club as they look to mount a challenge for the title.
