Italian Serie A postpones all Easter Monday games following Pope Francis' death
==================================================================================
In a historic decision, the Italian Serie A has postponed all four scheduled matches on Easter Monday after the passing of Pope Francis at the age of 88. The Vatican announced the news earlier today, stating that the Pope had died following five weeks of treatment for an infection.
Originally slated to be played on a national holiday in Italy, the postponed fixtures included Torino v Udinese, Cagliari v Fiorentina, Genoa v Lazio, and Parma v Juventus. The Serie A governing body has announced plans to reschedule these matches at a later date.
Pope Francis, who was elected in 2013, was an avid football fan and had supported Argentine side San Lorenzo since his childhood. Following the news of his passing, numerous Serie A clubs have expressed their condolences.
Roma issued a statement reading, “A loss that deeply saddens our city and the entire world. His faith, his humility, his courage, and his dedication have touched the hearts of millions of people, making him a moral reference of our time.”
