Transgender Women Barred from Scottish Women's Football

The Scottish FA has announced a new gender policy that will bar transgender women from competing in women's football starting from the next season. The policy will apply to all levels, including grassroots football from under-13s and above. The current policy, which allowed transgender women to compete on a case-by-case basis with testosterone levels considered, will be replaced. The decision follows the recent Supreme Court ruling that a woman is defined by biological sex under equalities law. This policy change aligns Scottish football with other sports like rugby, swimming, and athletics, where similar rules are in place. In England, transgender women can still compete in the women's game if they show low testosterone levels and are assessed by a match observer. As of now, there are no transgender women playing competitive football in Scotland.
