In light of the recent UK Supreme Court ruling on the legal definition of a woman, the English Football Association (FA) is reevaluating its policy regarding transgender women in women's football, taking legal advice and considering a potential change within days. The Scottish Football Association has already decided to ban transgender women from competitive matches in the women's game starting from next season. Lord Triesman, former FA Chairman, expressed his support for the Scottish FA's decision, urging the FA to show "similar clarity." The FA currently allows biological males to play in the women's game if they meet specific testosterone levels and undergo a match observation process. The FA Spokeswoman confirmed the ongoing review, stating, "We are carefully reviewing our policy and taking legal advice." As sports bodies respond to the Supreme Court ruling, other sports like cricket, pool, and snooker are also reviewing their gender eligibility policies.
