Ancelotti Exits Real Madrid for Brazil Coaching Role

Carlo Ancelotti waves to the crowd during Real Madrid's defeat to Barcelona in El Clasico

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti will depart the club at the end of the season to take over as Brazil's national team coach. Ancelotti, 65, will officially assume his new role on May 26, following the conclusion of La Liga. He leaves Real Madrid as one of the club's most successful managers, having won 15 trophies across two spells, including a Champions League and La Liga double last season. However, his exit comes after Real Madrid's El Clasico defeat to Barcelona, which left them seven points behind the leaders with three games remaining, effectively ending their hopes of winning a trophy this season. The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) described Ancelotti as a "legend of the game" and expressed gratitude to Real president Florentino Perez for facilitating his early release. Ancelotti's current contract with Real was scheduled to expire in June 2026.
