Carlo Ancelotti, former Real Madrid manager, has been appointed as the new coach of Brazil, the five-time World Cup champions. In a press conference at the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) headquarters, Ancelotti, 65, expressed his pride and honor to lead the best team in the world and targeted winning the 2026 World Cup. The Italian coach has an impressive resume, having won the Champions League three times, the La Liga title twice, and various domestic titles with other top European clubs. Ancelotti's first games with Brazil will be two South American World Cup qualifiers against Ecuador (away on 5 June) and Paraguay (at home on 10 June). Brazil, currently fourth in South American qualifying, need to finish in the top six to secure a direct spot in the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The appointment comes after Brazil's poor performance in recent years, including a 4–1 defeat by Argentina that led to the dismissal of Dorival Junior, their previous coach. Brazil have lost five of their past 14 games, conceding 16 goals. Ancelotti was welcomed by former Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari.
