Choosing Either Martin or Ancelotti, Rangers Must Make the Right Move'

Russell Martin and Davide Ancelotti

Rangers are on the brink of a new managerial appointment, with Russell Martin and Davide Ancelotti the frontrunners. Martin, who has managed MK Dons, Swansea, and Southampton, looks to be a slight favorite at the moment, despite Ancelotti's extensive coaching experience under his father at various clubs. Martin's coaching style is driven by his admiration for Barcelona, Manchester City, and Spain, and he guided Southampton to the Premier League last season before being dismissed in December. Ancelotti, on the other hand, has worked as a coach under his father at Bayern Munich, Napoli, Everton, and Real Madrid. The final decision is expected next week, and the key people involved are new Rangers chairman Andrew Cavenagh, vice-chairman Paraag Marathe, sporting director Kevin Thelwell, and chief executive Patrick Stewart.

Rangers are undergoing significant changes, with 13 chairmen since David Murray's departure 16 years ago. The new regime includes five new American board members, with three old ones stepping down. The club needs to rebuild its squad, and there is a focus on finding young talent for small fees while establishing a functioning player trading model.
