Liverpool on the brink of sealing Wirtz transfer

Florian Wirtz looks at the crowd after a game for Bayer Leverkusen

Liverpool have entered advanced negotiations with Bayer Leverkusen for midfielder Florian Wirtz, with an improved offer of approximately £109m, including add-ons. The German international, who has scored 57 goals in 197 games for Leverkusen, has expressed his desire to join the Premier League champions before next season. Manchester City and Bayern Munich have reportedly dropped their interest, leaving Liverpool in pole position. Wirtz, who made his debut at 17 and helped Leverkusen win the Bundesliga in 2024, has also scored six goals in 29 appearances for Germany. Liverpool are also prepared to activate the release clause for Leverkusen's full-back Jeremie Frimpong.
