Nottingham Forest deny that owner Evangelos Marinakis' exchange with manager Nuno Espirito Santo on the pitch during Sunday's 2-2 Premier League draw with Leicester was a "confrontation," calling it a misunderstanding over striker Taiwo Awoniyi's injury. The club stated that Marinakis' actions were due to his "deep care, responsibility, and emotional investment" in the player and the club. Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville and former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy criticized Marinakis, but ex-Celtic striker Chris Sutton defended him, saying the incident was due to a misunderstanding between the medical team. Forest said Awoniyi is recovering well after surgery on an abdominal injury sustained in the match.
