Injured Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi is in an induced coma following surgery on a serious abdominal injury sustained during a 2-2 draw against Leicester City on Sunday. The 27-year-old Nigerian collided with the post in the 88th minute while attempting to get on the end of a cross from Anthony Elanga. He had surgery on Monday night and will undergo further procedures on Wednesday. After the incident, Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis expressed concern to manager Nuno Espirito Santo over how Awoniyi's injury was handled. The club stated that Awoniyi's health and wellbeing must always come first, reminding us of the physical risks in football.
