Former Manchester United sporting director Dan Ashworth is set to return to the Football Association (FA) as head of elite men's and women's development. Ashworth, who spent five months at Old Trafford before leaving in December, was previously with the FA between 2012 and 2018, overseeing England's elite men's and women's teams, FA education, and coaching. His new role will involve overseeing the development of homegrown coaches, addressing the issue of few English managers in the Premier League, and leading the next stage of St George's Park's refurbishment. The FA has declined to comment on the matter. Ashworth's return to the FA reportedly follows a £4.1m bill for his hiring and firing by Manchester United, an expense that may not be reduced if he returns to the FA. Sir Jim Ratcliffe, co-owner of Manchester United, previously called hiring Ashworth an "error on our part." Ashworth is also reportedly working with Warwickshire County Cricket Club in a voluntary, unpaid role.
