Injured Awoniyi Leaves Nuno Cautiously Optimistic

Taiwo Awoniyi of Nottingham Forest in action.

Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo provided an update on the condition of striker Taiwo Awoniyi, who is currently recovering from emergency surgery after suffering a serious abdominal injury during Sunday's Premier League draw against Leicester City. The 27-year-old Nigerian international, who joined Forest from Union Berlin in 2022, has been put in an induced coma and is under observation, with medical staff monitoring his progress. The injury occurred when Awoniyi collided with the post while trying to reach a cross from Anthony Elanga, with the assistant referee failing to raise the offside flag until play was completed. Ola Aina, a teammate of Awoniyi, expressed his disappointment that the flag was not raised earlier, stating that the injury "would never have happened" had the flag been raised. Nuno expressed hope that Awoniyi can join the team next week and offered his support to the player and his family during this difficult time.
