Beckham to receive knighthood recognition for soccer contributions

King Charles III and David Beckham

David Beckham, the former England and Manchester United captain, is set to be knighted in King Charles' Birthday Honours list, according to BBC Sport. Beckham, who was previously appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2003, played 115 times for England and for various clubs including Real Madrid, LA Galaxy, Paris St-Germain, and AC Milan before retiring in 2013. Despite being reportedly nominated for a knighthood in 2011, Beckham's nomination was delayed due to leaked emails in which he criticised the honours system. However, he has made significant contributions to British society, particularly in securing the London 2012 Olympics and his work as an ambassador for Unicef since 2005. Beckham is also part-owner of League Two side Salford City and president and co-owner of Major League Soccer team Inter Miami in the United States. A Government spokesperson declined to comment on the speculation, and Beckham's representatives did not respond to a request for comment.
