Real Madrid secured a 3-1 win over Pachuca in the Club World Cup semi-final, but the match was marred by an alleged racist incident involving Real Madrid defender Antonio Rudiger and Pachuca captain Gustavo Cabral. The incident occurred in the closing stages of the game, with referee Ramon Abatti Abel activating Fifa's anti-racism protocol by crossing his arms in front of his chest. Cabral denied the allegations, stating that he had used an expletive and called Rudiger a "coward." Fifa has since opened disciplinary proceedings against Cabral. Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso supported Rudiger's account of the incident, stating that there is no tolerance for racism in football and measures should be taken if it occurred. This is not the first time Rudiger has spoken out against racist abuse in football. Last week, campaigners criticized Fifa for appearing to drop anti-racism messaging at the Club World Cup.
