French Ligue 1 club Lyon have been relegated to Ligue 2 due to financial issues, following a meeting with the DNGC on Tuesday. Despite efforts to improve their finances by selling players such as Maxence Caqueret and Rayan Cherki, and releasing high earners like Alexandre Lacazette and Anthony Lopes, the DNGC found that the club's financial situation was insufficient for Ligue 1. Lyon, seven-time French champions who last played in Ligue 2 in 1989, have the right to appeal the decision. The relegation may affect Crystal Palace's qualification for the Europa League, as Lyon also qualified by finishing sixth in Ligue 1.
