On June 28, 2025, Paul Pogba, the 32-year-old former Manchester United and Juventus midfielder, signed a two-year contract with Monaco following a doping suspension. In a tearful moment, Pogba expressed gratitude for the trust granted to him as he prepares for a return to competitive football. The suspension resulted from an inadvertent use of dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), a banned substance according to World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada).
However, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas) ruling confirmed that DHEA only has an effect on females. Pogba's career has been marked by impressive achievements, including winning Serie A in each of his first four seasons at Juventus, and a World Cup victory with France in 2018. His return to Manchester United in 2016, for a world-record £89m, saw him win the Europa League and FA Cup in his first season.
Despite injuries and a lack of form in his final three seasons at Manchester United, Pogba's return to Juventus failed to yield the same success. This signing marks his first time playing in Ligue 1 in his career.
