England U21 forward Jonathan Rowe scored the decisive goal in a dramatic 3-2 extra-time win over Germany in the European Under-21 Championship final. The 22-year-old, who was once a mascot for England at Wembley alongside Brazil, had a challenging move to French club Marseille on loan last season but impressed with his performance. Rowe spent three hours a day commuting from London to Norwich City's academy in 2014 while caring for his ill mother and helping raise his sister. Despite the difficulties, he made his first-team debut for Norwich in 2021 and scored 13 goals in the 2023-24 season, earning a reported £17m move to Marseille. Rowe started just six league games last season but said he "backed himself" and had the support of England coach Lee Carsley. The match was watched by England boss Thomas Tuchel, and Rowe expressed his happiness at performing in front of "important people" in the stands.
