Potential Four-Year Suspension Looms for Mudryk Amidst Doping Allegations

Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk

Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk has been charged by the FA with violating its anti-doping rules after failing a drugs test, potentially facing a ban of up to four years. The 24-year-old Ukrainian, who joined Chelsea from Shakhtar Donetsk in January 2023 for £89m, has not played for the club since 28 November and has been provisionally suspended since December. Mudryk is alleged to have violated regulations 3 and 4 of the FA's anti-doping regulations. He and Chelsea are working together to determine the cause of the failed test, with Mudryk stating he "never knowingly used any banned substances." The FA has not commented further on the ongoing case while Chelsea has not released a statement regarding the charges. Under FA rules, Mudryk can request analysis of the B sample from a urine test, and if the B sample analysis confirms the adverse finding, charges will be brought, allowing Mudryk to either accept the finding and the applicable consequences or request a hearing. Mudryk has scored 10 goals in 73 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea.
