Tottenham Hotspur have sacked manager Ange Postecoglou, 16 days after he led the club to a Europa League triumph over Manchester United. The 1-0 victory in the final, held in Bilbao, was Spurs' first major trophy in 17 years. Despite the European success, the club finished a dismal 17th in the Premier League, losing 22 of their 38 matches. Postecoglou, who had promised supporters "season three will be better than season two," was given the sack two years to the day after joining Spurs from Celtic on a four-year contract. The club cited their review of performances as the reason for the decision, stating that emotions from the Europa League win could not be the sole basis for their decision.
