Accuracy Check: BBC Sport Pundits' Premier League Predictions

BBC Sport Premier League Predictions

None of the 30 BBC pundits accurately predicted Liverpool's Premier League title triumph before the season began. In fact, the closest pundits were Stephen Warnock and Fara Williams, who both picked Arsenal to finish as runners-up, while Liverpool was not even among their top four predictions. Opta's 'supercomputer' also failed to foresee Liverpool's success, giving Manchester City an 82.2% chance of winning the title, with Liverpool in third. However, both the algorithm and Fara Williams did correctly predict Arsenal and Chelsea to finish in their actual positions. Warnock, who correctly predicted the top four last season, only got three of the four teams right this time, with Villa missing out on the Champions League places due to a controversial last-day defeat to Manchester United. The race for the top four and Champions League places was a point of interest, as only the top four were certain of a European spot at the start of the season, but it was later confirmed that the team finishing fifth would also qualify. Nine teams featured in the predicted top fours, but only Manchester City and Arsenal were included in all 30 predictions.
