Leverkusen's Frimpong Joins Liverpool for £29.5m Transfer Fee

Jeremie Frimpong

Liverpool have secured the signing of Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen for €35 million (£29.5 million) on a five-year contract, following the confirmed departure of Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid. Frimpong, a Dutch international right-back, is widely perceived as a replacement for the outgoing Alexander-Arnold and played a pivotal role in Leverkusen's first Bundesliga title in 2023-24, making 53 appearances in all competitions. The new signing will face competition for the right-back position from Conor Bradley, who recently extended his contract with Liverpool. Frimpong previously developed through Manchester City's youth system before joining Celtic in 2019 and Leverkusen in 2021. Liverpool's Dutch contingent now includes Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo, and Ryan Gravenberch. Additionally, the club is reportedly in advanced negotiations for Germany forward Florian Wirtz, with an offer of around £109 million on the table.
