Cherished Transfer: Liverpool Secures £40m Deal for Kerkez from Bournemouth

Milos Kerkez

Liverpool have agreed to sign Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth for a fee of £40m. The 21-year-old left-back, who has represented Hungary, is set to join the Premier League champions, having spent two seasons with the Cherries. With this deal, Liverpool are close to finalizing a club-record £116m move for Bayer Leverkusen's Florian Wirtz and have already signed Dutch right-back Jeremie Frimpong from the German club for £29.5m.

Bournemouth have already secured Adrien Truffert from Rennes as Kerkez's replacement. Kerkez, a Serbia-born Hungarian, started his senior career at Gyor, moved to AC Milan, and then joined AZ Alkmaar in January 2022. During his stint at AZ Alkmaar, he scored five goals and provided seven assists in 52 appearances, helping the team finish fourth in the Dutch top flight and reach the semi-finals of the 2022-23 Europa Conference League.

Kerkez joined Bournemouth in the summer of 2023, when Liverpool's sporting director, Richard Hughes, was working for the Cherries. He played all 38 league games last season as Bournemouth finished ninth with a club-record 56 Premier League points, contributing two goals and six assists. Kerkez joins compatriot Dominik Szoboszlai at Liverpool.
