"Divine Intervention" - Messi proves he's still a soccer magician

Lionel Messi gets a hug

Lionel Messi scored a stunning free-kick as Inter Miami beat Porto 2-1 in the Club World Cup, putting them in contention for a place in the last 16. The Argentine's goal followed another brilliant finish from team-mate Telesco Segovia and completed a comeback victory. Messi's strike, his 68th direct free-kick goal, propelled him to third place in the all-time rankings for the Club World Cup, just one behind Cristiano Ronaldo. The victory was Inter Miami's first in the competition, and a draw with Palmeiras in their final Group A game would send both teams through. Messi, 37, has been in fine form since joining Inter Miami in 2020, and his 50 goals put him atop the club's all-time goalscoring charts. The eight-time Ballon d'Or winner has a remarkable 754 career goals and continues to dominate on the pitch.
