On 15th February 2023, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca addressed the media regarding suspended forward Mykhailo Mudryk, who faces a potential four-year ban for violating the FA's anti-doping rules. Mudryk, 24, has not spoken to Maresca since the suspension and the manager emphasized that he trusts all Chelsea players. Mudryk, signed from Shakhtar Donetsk in January 2023 for £89m, has scored 10 goals in 73 appearances for the Blues. In a move related to Mudryk's absence, Cole Palmer, a star attacker, donned the number 10 shirt, worn by Mudryk, for the first time in Chelsea's 2-0 win over Los Angeles FC at the Club World Cup. Palmer, 23, said he chose the number to emulate footballing idols such as Messi and Rooney. Meanwhile, Maresca confirmed his intention to rotate multiple players in the upcoming match against Flamengo, and expects winger Noni Madueke to stay at the club despite transfer rumors.
